NAVAJO TO ENGLISH TRANSLATION
Greetings my relatives and my people. My name is Joshua Micheal Whitman and I am from Gallup. I am of the Bitter Water clan and born for the One-Walks-Around clan. My maternal grandfather are of the Red Running into the Water People clan and my paternal grandfather are of the Black Streak Wood People clan. That is how I am a Navajo man.
As the Marketing Representative for Parking & Transportation Services (PATS) at The University of New Mexico (UNM), I oversee the department's marketing and communications efforts under the direction of the ISS Marketing Manager. PATS operates as a self-funded auxiliary department within UNM's Institutional Support Services (ISS) administration. I hold a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art Studio from UNM, awarded in 2018, and have previously served as the Experiential Learning Coordinator at the Octavia Fellin Public Library, as well as the Creative Director at the New Mexico Social Justice & Equity Institute.
In my current role, I am responsible for coordinating the production of marketing materials and communications across PATS, encompassing Administrative, Business, Parking, and Transportation operations. This includes managing signage replacement projects within PATS parking zones, developing marketing collateral, overseeing website and social media platforms, facilitating collaborations with UNM departments and external organizations, and presenting departmental information to students, faculty, and staff.
Notably, I have successfully overseen the implementation of a significant project at the Cornell Parking Structure, involving the installation of new waypoint signage above the entrance and at the PATS Business office, as well as the application of new window decals. This nine-month initiative concluded on July 3, 2024.
Outside of work, I enjoy a variety of interests including watching movies and TV shows, playing video games, reading, creating artwork, and traveling. My preferred genres for entertainment are horror, fantasy, action, and adventure. As a freelance artist, I have exhibited my work in multiple exhibitions and currently focus on developing expertise in watercolor painting and digital photography. One of my most memorable travel experiences was visiting New York City in 2021, and I am eagerly planning my next adventure which includes international travel.
