Jeff Zumwalt

UNM Utility Services
Jeff Zumwalt serves as the Director of UNM Utility Services. In this role, Jeff oversees the efficient and reliable delivery of utilities to UNM’s main campus, and helps align department initiatives to meet the vision and goals established in the UNM 2040: Opportunity Defined strategic plan.
Zumwalt first joined UNM in 2003 as the Associate Director of Utilities. He was the Director of the Physical Plant Department when he departed UNM in 2016. During his 13-year tenure at UNM, he oversaw $80 million of utility renovations funded by energy efficiency improvements. He also served as a member of the UNM Sustainability Council and authored UNM’s first Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Climate Action Plan. Zumwalt continued working in higher education at Texas A&M and the University of Kentucky, before his New Mexico roots drew him back to UNM.
Jeff has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master of Business Administration from the University of New Mexico. He is active in industry associations as demonstrated by his past membership on the Board of Directors for the International District Energy Association and the New Mexico Industrial Energy Consumers. Jeff is also a member of the faculty for the APPA Institute for Facility Management. Outside of higher education, Jeff has worked in energy conservation with Cenergistic and the electric utility industry with Reliant Energy and Southern California Edison.
