Lobo Energy Incorporated

Jason Strauss is the President/CEO of Lobo Energy, Incorporated, which operates as one of several 501(c)(3) organizations established under the University Research Park Economic Development Act (URPEDA) at The University of New Mexico. The Lobo Energy team, consisting of Energy Conservation Specialists and Administrators, collaborates to assist the University in managing and supervising the planning, design, engineering, contracting, energy conservation, and commissioning services for various projects. As the leader of Lobo Energy, Jason plays a vital role in reviewing utility regulatory issues, promoting long-term technological innovation, and advocating sustainable practices.

Since first joining Lobo Energy in 2009, Jason has been instrumental in the success of the University's energy conservation program, which has achieved a remarkable 26% reduction in energy usage since then. In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Jason was awarded the prestigious title of Energy Manager of the Year by the New Mexico chapter of the Association of Energy Engineers in 2012. Over his 14-year tenure at Lobo Energy, Jason progressed through various roles, serving as Energy Conservation Specialist, Manager of Energy Conservation and Director of Energy Conservation before assuming the position of President/CEO in 2014. 

Jason's journey with UNM began in 1999, as a graduate assistant before he later became an Assistant Football Coach under Rocky Long in 2000. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration from Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, and a Master of Science degree with a focus on Athletic Administration from The University of New Mexico. Through his extensive experience and expertise in energy management and organizational leadership, Jason has made significant contributions to the University of New Mexico and continues to drive innovation and sustainability at Lobo Energy.
