Campus Environments & Services (CES) supports The University of New Mexico in visible and behind-the-scenes ways every day. From student experience to infrastructure, our work helps the University function, serve and grow.
Student Experience
Supporting how students live, learn and connect every day.
- Ensure course materials are accurate and in stock through UNM Bookstores, with cost-saving options including used books, rentals and e-books.
- Provide housing for more than 2,500 residents and manage 1 million sq. ft. of residential space through Residence Life and Student Housing.
- Support campus life access through the UNM LoboCard.
- Deliver high-quality dining while sourcing more than 20% of food locally and reducing food waste through initiatives like LoboEats and campus food recovery.
Campus Operations
Powering and maintaining the University's physical environment.
- Maintain more than 8 million sq. ft. of building space and nearly 2,500 restrooms daily through Custodial Services.
- Operate utilities 24/7/365 to support electricity, water, heating and cooling systems across campus.
- Deliver approximately 150 capital projects annually through Facility Services.
- Support 15,900 parking spaces and transport 1.2 million riders annually through Parking and Transportation Services.
- Manage 14.5 million sq. ft. of space and assess more than 2.4 million sq. ft. through Campus Capital and Space Planning.
- Manage more than 200 leases annually, totaling 1,603,775 sq. ft. and $11.5 million in lease payments through Real Estate.
Community & Culture
Bringing people together through events, media and shared experiences.
- Generate more than $47 million in economic impact through Popejoy Hall performances over the past 24 months.
- Broadcast to nearly 700,000 households weekly through New Mexico PBS.
- Host campus and community events across golf courses, performance venues and gathering spaces.
- Staff Council hosts 20 to 30 events annually and represents approximately 150 constituents per councilor.
Stewardship & Sustainability
Advancing responsible growth, conservation and long-term campus sustainability.
- Achieved a 28% reduction in carbon footprint since 2000 through Facility Services initiatives.
- Generate 54% of campus electricity internally and operate utility systems continuously since 1948.
- Reduced energy consumption by 26% and achieved $140 million in cost avoidance through Lobo Energy programs.
- Implemented campus-wide lighting upgrades, achieving 38% energy savings.
- Enhanced building performance through retro-commissioning and smart metering systems, providing real-time energy data.
- Support more than 1,400 recycling collection points across 174 buildings to reduce waste and improve diversion.
- Maintain a nationally recognized Level I Arboretum with more than 5,000 trees and 235 species.
