Park History

Phase I  
History Phase I Est. 1965
  • Joint initiative of the University of New Mexico and the Albuquerque Industrial Development Service
  • Initially housed defense contractors until they were scaled back in the mid 1970s
Phase II  
History Phase II Revived 1988
  • New interest in Science & Technology Parks nation wide
  • Private developers commenced development of 42 acres in concert with UNM
  • Market conditions did not support implementation of the master plan
Phase III
History Phase III Mid 1990s
  • University leadership guided new development
  • STC.UNM was created and funded by UNM to:
    • Commercialize new technology
    • Manage Park real estate requirements
    • Start-up Companies became the focus of marketing efforts
    • Corporate presence was established with the addition of Lockheed Martin
Phase IV
History Phase IV 2003
  • Property Management and Park development shifted to the University Real Estate Office
  • STC.UNM continues to acts as the commercialization arm
