PCD Vision, Mission & Values

OUR VISION

Planning and Campus Development is a creative, resourceful partner and advocate for a functional, aesthetic, sustainable and technologically advanced campus. By weaving together diverse and competing interests we create efficient and memorable places that promote student success, research excellence and public engagement. Our proactive attitude captures the physical interpretation of abstract concepts, breathing life into the campus and supporting new ideas that further the mission of the University.

OUR MISSION

Planning and Campus Development creates and perpetuates a distinctive and welcoming campus environment that evokes a sense of well-being, stimulates intellectual discovery and raises the human spirit. Based on the documentation and analysis of campus data, the evaluation of its lands, infrastructure, space and physical assets, PCD is fundamental to the thoughtful, creative and intelligent management of the campus’ physical resources. To that end, PCD is a steward of UNM’s unique campus identity and principal advocate for the efficient and sustainable management of its facilities, grounds and qualitative attributes.

CORE VALUES - The Principles that Guide Our Decisions

Excellence: As a service-driven team, Planning & Campus Development promotes excellence by providing accurate, comprehensive information and professional guidance regarding campus development. This foundation enhances quality decision making to help create an aesthetic, dynamic physical environment that supports student success, advances research excellence and promotes economic development.

Access with Support to Succeed: Planning & Campus Development engages the internal and external community, offering comprehensive access to its source data and to its expertise with planning and campus development. This support is the foundation for making accurate, fact-based decisions that 1) guide appropriate space and land use, 2) identify projected needs, and 3) outlines a roadmap to successfully enhance education, research and service at UNM.

Integrity: Planning & Campus Development manages the resources of the University to maximize their impact for a healthy, safe and sustainable physical environment. By the thoughtful use of campus resources, we create best values and make public our work efforts for examination by the University community. We are forthcoming and acknowledge the valuable work of others with whom we collaborate.

Diversity: Planning & Campus Development works to strengthen diversity by engaging the University community in open, multi faceted, integrated and collaborative decision-making and designs. We seek influences outside UNM and New Mexico to enliven our community, through continued Global dialogue, our work in space planning, in pre-planning activities and in Campus/Master Planning.

Respectful Relationships: Planning & Campus Development engages the University and the community to align them in a productive dialogue that identifies our commonalities and differences. By listening and engaging in discussions, we develop empathy and balance for all of the competing interests that physically shape our campus.

Freedom: We guide the planning and development of a campus that protects and advances freedom of expression, discovery and the sharing of ideas. We are sensitive to and respectful of the opinions of others, all of whose ideas have merit in the physical creation of a higher education environment.

Sustainability: We apply knowledge and expertise toward the implementation and utilization of campus elements that move us toward a carbon-neutral footprint. Our planning promotes and fosters the understanding of sustainable principles in everyday campus life.
