Space Management (SM), provides comprehensive strategic, capital and facilities space planning, programming, and facilities data information for the University of New Mexico (UNM) campus. We are the primary campus source for the development of short and long-term space programs during the planning process. This department is responsible for space management throughout campus, transferring work on space utilization from PPD and assuming responsibilities for all space surveys, BR&R space calculations, and space allocation support. PCD-SM is currently implementing a new system, FAMIS, to increase the utilization and availability of data to the users.
Space Management prepares recommendations to the Space Allocation Committee on all space allocation issues within the University. SM works closely with the Provost’s Office, Deans and departments by providing technical assistance on issues associated with facility planning, space planning, and space programming for the renovation of existing space and requests for expansion space or development of new space. This information provides the basis for obtaining a project cost estimate from the Office of Capital Projects or the Physical Plant Department.
SM gathers information associated with the University's space inventory, utilization and floor plan databases with the coordination of departmental Space Administrators. We are the primary access point for the distribution of the data to internal and external users for various reporting needs.
